Lake Rules

The Lake and associated facilities, parklands, walkways and the private direct lake access walkways to certain lots located near the lake (the “Arbour Lake Amenities”) are for the exclusive use of Members of Arbour Lake Residents Association Ltd. (the “Residents Association”) and their guests. 

All such Members and their guests are permitted the use of the Arbour Lake Amenities entirely at their own risk and subject to the designated Rules and Regulations. 

Additional Rules

The Residents Association staff reserves the right to restrict entry to Members and guests. The Residents Association shall have the right to make such other and further reasonable Rules and Regulations as in its judgment may from time to time be needful for the safety, care and cleanliness of the Arbour Lake Amenities and for preservation of good order therein, and they shall be kept and observed by Members and their guests.

ALL TRASH SHALL BE DEPOSITED IN THE RECEPTACLES PROVIDED OR SHALL BE CARRIED AWAY FROM THE ARBOUR LAKE AMENITIES. LET’S KEEP OUR LAKE AND PARK SAFE AND CLEAN!

Prohibited Items and Activities at Arbour Lake

We ask all members and guests to respect these rules to help preserve the natural beauty and safety of Arbour Lake. Thank you for your cooperation!

 

To maintain a safe and clean environment for all members and guests, the following prohibited items and activities are not allowed on the premises.​

Prohibited Items & Activities

  • Personal Inflatable Water Toys (as per Provincial Regulations)

  • Glass Bottles, Glass Containers, Glass Cups, etc.

  • Alcohol, Drugs, Cigarettes, or Similar Substances

  • Animals (pets or other animals)

  • Bicycles, Skateboards, Scooters, or Other Vehicles

  • Roller-Skates or Roller Blades

  • Open Fires

  • Motor Boats or Snowmobiles

  • Personal Watercraft Equipment

  • Taking Sand Off the Beach

  • Digging Deep Holes in the Beach

​* There is NO SMOKING and NO VAPING inside the park or parking lot.

Trash & Waste Disposal

  • No person shall at any time discharge, deposit, throw, dump or place any trash or debris of any kind whatsoever (including, without limitation, any toxic or dangerous substance or material) in the lake, or on the lake property or in dumpsters, all of which are strictly prohibited at all times.

Fishing Regulations

Catch & Release Only

At this time, only catch and release fishing will be permitted at Arbour Lake. No fish of any size or kind can be kept. This regulation is a result of Alberta Environment and Parks suspending all fish stocking activities within the Bow River drainage area, which includes Arbour Lake. This action is in response to the presence of Whirling disease in the Bow River and commercial fish culture operations. As a result, the lake will not be stocked indefinitely, and no fish may be kept for the foreseeable future.

Fishing activities will not be supervised.

  • Arbour Lake is a private facility and holds a valid fishing license for all members.

  • Fishing privileges on Arbour Lake are restricted to Members and their guests provided the Member is present.

  • All member must read and sign a fishing orientation before engaging in fishing activities.

  • We reserve the right to inspect all bags, fishing equipment, coolers, etc. at any time.

  • Random tackle box checks will be performed before, during and after entering the lake to ensure all rules and regulations are followed.

Fishing Activites

Designated Areas

  • Fishing is only permitted from the designated fishing dock or location chosen in the winter.

  • Fishing is not permitted from the boat launch area or within the swimming area.

Hooks & Bait Regulations

  • Only barbless hooks are allowed.

  • Egg hooks and triple hooks are not permitted.

  • Live bait, corn, bread, minnows, smelts, fish, or nets may not be used.

Equipment Use

Only one fishing rod per resident may be cast at a time.
Fishing lines must be attended at all times.

Personal ice augers are not allowed. 

Fish Handling

All injured or deceased fish must be surrendered to a staff member.

Suspensions & Violations

Suspensions & Violations
Violations of the following regulations will result in a one-month suspension from fishing:
❌ Using live bait, corn, bread, minnows, smelts, fish, or nets to catch fish.
❌ Using barbed hooks.
❌ Failing to release a healthy fish.

 

⚠️ Lake Fishing Suspension Rights
To properly control and maintain the fish population, the Residents Association reserves the right to suspend fishing rights without notice for any period it deems necessary.

Member Responsibilities & Requirements

  • Homeowner Members and Tenant Members are responsible for the actions of their family members and guests.

  • Guests must always be accompanied by the member who signed them in.

  • Guests are not allowed in the lake without being accompanied by a member at any time.

  • Members must present their personal and current lake membership when checking in guests.

Guest Limits
For Adult Members

  • Each household can have up to 5 guests per day at a time.

For Members Under 18

  • Members under the age of 18 are permitted a maximum of 2 guests at any time.

  • Guests under 18 must provide photo ID.

Important: No Arbour Lake resident will be considered a guest.

Identification for Underage Members

  • Members under 18 years of age who bring guests must leave their lake card at the office.

  • Guests must leave a piece of photo ID with the member’s lake card.

  • Both members and guests can retrieve their IDs upon departure.

Guest Boating Rules

  • Guests 18 years or older may use equipment if they sign a waiver and are accompanied by a member.

  • Guests aged 12 to 17 must have a waiver signed by their parents. The parents must remain inside the lake park while the guest is boating. 

Note: These rules are in place to ensure the safety of all guests and residents while using the lake's boating equipment.

Requests for Additional Guests

  • If you wish to have more than 5 guests (up to a maximum of 20), please submit your request at least 7 days in advance via email to info@arbourlake.com.

  • This request is not guaranteed until confirmed by management.

  • The ALRA reserves the right to limit the number of guest bookings per day at any time.

Boating Rules 

Welcome to our beautiful lake! Here you’ll find essential information about boating equipment restrictions, rental process, waiver requirements, and all the important rules in place to help protect our lake and community. We hope you enjoy your time on the water, but please remember, that safety comes first!

Important Notice:

Inflatables are not allowed due to the presence of Whirling Disease in Alberta lakes.


Boating Activities Will Not Be Supervised!

To ensure safety and enjoyment for all, please adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Water Temperature: Boating is only permitted when the water temperature is at least 10°C.

  • Qualified Operator: All boats and watercraft must be operated by a qualified ALRA Member who is at least 16 years old.

  • Flotation Devices: Every person on a boat or watercraft must wear a properly fitting Coast Guard-approved Personal Flotation Device (PFD) at all times. Try to keep them dry if possible.

  • No Jumping/Swimming: Jumping off or onto equipment is prohibited.

  • Fishing: Fishing is only permitted from rowboats and canoes.

  • No docking on private docks, fishing docks, or swimming docks.

  • No equipment in swim areas or pulled up onto the rocks.

  • Damaged or Unsafe Boats: Any damaged or unsafe equipment must be returned immediately.

  • Hazardous Conditions: If conditions such as lightning, strong winds, or storms occur, all boats should come ashore immediately.

  • Compliance: All boating activities are to be conducted in strict compliance with the Canada Coast Guard regulations.

  • Safety First: No boat or watercraft shall be operated in a careless or dangerous manner.

Note: In the event of a boating accident a good safety rule is STAY WITH THE BOAT UNTIL ASSISTANCE ARRIVES.

Boat Usage 

  • Sign-Out Process: Boats must be signed out through an Arbour Lake Staff Member. Only qualified members aged 16 or older with a valid membership card are allowed to sign out boats. 

  • No Reservations: Boats are first come, first serve. Reservations are not accepted.

  • Boat Return: Boats must be returned promptly after use and docked only in the designated boat launch area. 

 

Maximum Rental Period​ & Return

  • Rowboats, Canoes, and Kayaks: 2-hour maximum rental period.

  • Pedal Boats: 30-minute rental period.

  • During peak hours, rental time may be adjusted at the discretion of lake staff.

  • Return Time: All boats and equipment must be returned at least 30 minutes prior to closing.

  • No Rentals Close to Closing: Boat rentals are not permitted within 30 minutes of closing time.

Waiver Requirements

  • Every resident must have a boat waiver signed.

  • For minors (ages 12-17): A waiver must be signed by the legal guardian before using single kayaks and paddleboards.

  • Waivers must be signed at Arbour Lake for validity.

  • Guest are not permitted to go on any equipment alone, no exceptions.

Boating Equipment Restrictions

  • Rowboats: Maximum of 3 people.

  • Canoes/Kayaks: Maximum of 2 people.

  • 2-Person Paddleboat: Maximum of 2 people.

  • 4-Person Paddleboat: Maximum of 4 people.​​​

Swimming Safety Guidelines

SWIMMING AREA IS NOT SUPERVISED!

It is recommended that small children be restricted to the marked swimming area. All persons under the age of 18 SHOULD WEAR a Coast Guard Approved floatation device outside of the designated swim area. Children 12 and younger must wear a lifejacket at all times or have a lifejacket waiver signed.

 

Safety Tips

  • If you bring children to swim, please watch them at all times.

  • We highly recommend children wear a PFD at all times.

  • Children must remain in the buoyed swim area.

  • Swimming with a buddy is safer and way more fun.

  • No diving.

  • No swimming from the boat docks, except for residents who have their own docks.

  • No swimming during lightning storms.

  • No swimming after dark.

Lake Access & Docks Usage ​

The Lake Access Walkways are restricted for the sole use of the homeowners of the Lake Access Lots which are immediately adjacent to such Walkways, and the families and guests of such homeowners.

The use of all docks giving access to the lake (including docks giving access to the lake from lake shore lots) shall be subject to such rules and regulations as may be enacted from time to time by the ALRA.

The use of any dock giving access to the lake from a particular lake shore lot shall (except in the case of an emergency) be restricted to the owners of that particular lake shore lot and their families, tenants and guests.
